Click here for a list of participating stations. [back to top]
Can I use the card
internationally?
No. The card is only applicable to the Republic of
Ireland. [back to top]
Can I purchase anything else with my Benchmark Motorcard?
Yes. You can purchase Petrol, Diesel, Lubricants and
Carwashes with your Benchmark Motorcard. [back to top]
Are there any special requirements at the
petrol station for using the card?
No. Your price is not calculated at the station and
the staff member facilitating your purchase will not
require any information from you. [back to top]
I have received my card and used it to buy
petrol but the amount on the receipt was the same as the
price on the pump. When is the discounted rate
applied?
Having used your card at a Statoil station to pay for
Petrol or Diesel you will be asked to sign a receipt
(similar to a credit card receipt). This receipt details
the number of litres received and the prevailing pump
price at the station. Although your discounted rate is
applied immediately, this receipt will not detail your
discounted price.
At the next monthly billing period, you will receive
an e-bill by email. This e-bill details the number of
litres purchased, the price at the petrol station where
you purchased the fuel and your discounted rate.
The amount put forward for direct debit is the number
of litres multiplied by discounted
rate on offer at the time your fuel was purchased.

Can the card be used at any other petrol
stations in the Republic of Ireland?
No. The Benchmark Motorcard will only be accepted by Statoil
stations in the Republic of Ireland. [back to top]
Are there any Statoil Stations that do not
accept the card?
Yes. Although 99.9% of the Statoil network in Ireland
accepts the Motorcard, there may be a small number that
do not participate in the scheme. This is for a variety
of reasons but the most common is that the site is due
to be sold and will soon cease trading under the Statoil
brand. The sites currently not accepting the card
are:
1. Fortunestown Lane, Saggart, Co. Dublin
Should you encounter a Statoil station (not listed
above) that is not accepting your Motorcard, please let
us know at info@motorcard.ie [back to top]
What exactly does
“discounted price” mean?
Fuel pricing is calculated by Statoil against
something called the Recommended Pump Price.
This is the price used by the company to formulate
discounts against and is rarely seen in effect at the
pump.
The Benchmark Motorcard has a reduction against the Recommended Pump Price which delivers the
discounted price to the cardholder on a weekly basis.
This price is then guaranteed to be in effect nationwide
for all card holders at participating Statoil
stations. [back to top]
How will I know what the discounted price for
the week is?
The cent per litre price will be updated on a weekly
basis at http://www.motorcard.ie [back to top]
Is there any guarantee that the discounted
price will be cheaper than other petrol
stations?
Unfortunately not. Fuel prices vary from region to
region and are subject to a number of local influences.
What is the AA
Average?
The “AA Average” is used by the association to
determine an index of the national average price.
Conducted on a national basis the calculation is based
on a survey of participating stations over two
consecutive days in the second week of the surveyed
month. It does not take into account fluctuations in
price before or after the two days being surveyed and
can be up to 10 cent per litre above or below today’s
pump price. [back to top]
Are there any hidden costs involved other
than related bank charges?
No. The Benchmark Motorcard is provided free of charge. [back to top]
Is there a minimum amount that I have to
spend on the card?
No. You can use the card as often or as little as you
like. [back to top]
How do I pay for my
purchases?
All payments are made by direct debit from your bank
account. [back to top]
Can the DD be taken directly from my Credit
Card Account?
Unfortunately not. To apply for the Benchmark Motorcard, you
must have a current bank account. [back to top]
When is the direct debit taken from my
account?
All Benchmark Motorcard holders will have the benefit of 1
month’s interest free credit. This means that you will
receive your invoice by email once a month. The invoice
will state clearly how much is due to be taken from your
account and on what day this will occur. [back to top]
Will I need any special software to read my
invoice?
In order to open and read or print your e-bill you
will need the software Adobe Acrobat Reader, which is
available free of charge from the Adobe website.
For instructions of how to download and install this
software onto your computer please visit http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html

What does an e-bill look like?
Click here to view an example of your e-bill. [back to top]
Will I be notified in advance of the
debit?
You will have a minimum of seven days notice before
the direct debit is processed. [back to top]
What happens if I miss a direct
debit?
If a direct debit is returned unpaid for technical reasons, a member of
Statoil’s credit department will contact the cardholder
in an attempt to rectify the problem. Technical returns
are not subject to any penalties or fees.
However, if a direct debit is returned for credit reasons the card will
be immediately stopped. This is a security precaution
and designed to combat fraud or any unauthorized use of
a stolen card. A Statoil representative will make
contact with the card holder, inform them of the
situation and request payment for the overdue amount
plus a €40 administration fee (levied by Statoil) via a
“same day bank transfer” or credit / debit card payment.
Once this has been completed, the account, subject to
certain terms and conditions, will be nominated for
reinstatement. [back to top]
What do I do if my card is
lost or stolen?
To report a lost or stolen card you can send an email
to info@motorcard.ie detailing your name, address and vehicle registration
number or call us at 01-883 9230. Let us know which cards
have been lost and we will place them on stop and have
replacements issued straight away. [back to top]
